Hola
Familia y Amigos
This
week has just flown by! I can't believe in 2 days I will be in New York! It
still doesn't feel real, I just can't see myself there. It feels like it was
only a week ago that I was packing my suitcases and hugging you all good bye.
Now I am once again packing my bags and saying good bye to people I love
dearly. It's actually really sad (I'm tearing up a bit just thinking about it).
I never would have thought it possible to love people this much in such a small
amount of time. But I honestly have so much love for my district and zone it’s
crazy. Anyway I'll get off my soap box and tell y'all about my week.
Sunday-
This week we had a district of 8 sisters leave. I actually was really close
with a few of them and it was sad to say good bye. When people leave we sing
'Para Siempre Dios este con Vos' which is ' God be with you till we meet again'
in Spanish to those who are leaving. It is kinda the worst thing ever because
everyone is always crying by the end. I'm not looking forward to having to do
this with my district tomorrow. Other than that not a lot happened on Sunday.
We had our MTC President and his wife speak to us for our devotional and they
just talked about how not to be discouraged as a missionary when people reject
our message and that was really good too.
Monday-
Was a crazy adventure. Like I said we had the district of 8 sisters leave. So
me and Hermana Roberts got up at 2:15 in the morning to wish the first group
off. We got to the travel office and were waiting for them with some of the
Elders. We waited and waited and finally at 2:45 we went to their
room and knocked on the door and they were not even up and they had to leave
at 3:00 so we helped them scramble around and get things ready to go.
So we really only got like 2 seconds of good byes so that was kinda sad. So
then Hermana Roberts and I went back to bed around 3:15 and got up again
at 4:50 to say good bye to the next group of people that were leaving
and then we got up again when we were supposed to at 6:30 so needless
to say Monday was a long day with a lot of nodding off. Monday we also
had our last service at the MTC which was actually kinda sad because we have a
really great relationship with the woman we did service for. Me and Hermana
Hogan cleaned all the door frames on all 5 floors of the building and we were
both very sore the next day from squatting down to clean them at the bottom
lol.
After
Service we had another skype TRC which went good but she spoke perfect English
and so when we didn't know how to say something she told us to just say it in
English which doesn't help our Spanish improve so that was kind of a bummer.
Our
district also got some really good news! Elder Killpack, who was the elder that
fractured his ankle and had to go home, emailed us and told us that he had
gotten a 2nd X-ray and the doctor said he wouldn't need surgery anymore so he
will be coming back out to the MTC in about a week so he will only be 2-3 weeks
behind us instead of 6-12. We were all so happy for him and know that it is a
miracle that he doesn't need surgery any more.
Tuesday-
For Choir we sang the prettiest song. It’s called 'Testimony' which has the
lyrics of 'I know that my Redeemer Lives' with a different tune. It really was
so pretty. It made me cry. The choir director also told us about Samuel Medley
who was the one who wrote the Lyrics to the song. I would highly recommend
giving it a listen. We Had Sister and Elder Koekiller (IDK if that's how you
spell their name. I don't remember.) But they also gave really talks. Sister
Koekiller told a story about hiking some crazy tall mountain (I don't remember
which one. Sorry) and how the best thing you could do to make sure you made it
to the top and back was to have a good guide and how Christ is the perfect
guide and if we follow him we can make it safely home.
Thursday-
I realize I skipped Wednesday but there was really not anything that
happened on Wednesday. Monday was our last TRC so we didn't even have
lessons that we were teaching. But Thursday was a jam packed day. We
did something called in field orientation. Which is basically a 9 hour long
work shop. But it was actually so good. They taught us skills on how to do
things in the mission field. We learned about how to make goals and plan, how
to find people out in the field and how to work with members. So what we did
all day was sit in a class for about an hour and learn the skills and then went
and did a whole ton of practice and role plays then evaluation and then more
role plays. It was actually really good I liked it a lot. The funny part was
that everyone in my district, and I'm sure others, had the hardest time doing
it because it was all in English and I have never practiced doing things like
that in English. I totally could not remember the vocabulary I needed and I
couldn't use any of the scriptures I've memorized. But other than that it was
so good and I was able to learn a lot.
Friday-
Was a sad day. It was our last class with Hermano Jake. So we all were really
sad about that I will miss him. But for class we went out for about 1/2 an hour
and practiced contacting in Spanish. It was actually so much fun. I mean we
would only contact other missionaries because we can't exactly contact other
people in the MTC and we did it only in Spanish and only one of our contacts
spoke Spanish. But we would tell them about God and Christ their love for them.
All of our contacts told us that they understood more than they thought. I know
it’s not cuz they suddenly could speak Spanish but because the spirit was able
to speak to their hearts and tell them that what Hermana Hogan and I were
testifying of was true. I'm just really excited to go out and do all of this
for real.
I
love you all and would love to hear from all of you soon!
Love,
Hermana Dobson
