August 9th, 2017-Loving the Work!

Sister Muti and I on our split.
August 9th, 2017
Hola! ¿Cómo están?

I can't believe it's already been 2 full weeks here in NYC! It has been busy as always! Because we have 2 areas to cover we are never in short supply of people to teach so that's really good! Sorry this email will have to be short cuz I don't have a lot of time today!

Wednesday- After P-day ended we had 2 appointments. One with a member who fed us and the other was a former investigator named Virginia. She was dropped because she went to the Domincan Republic for 3 1/2 months (that's a really common thing, that when people go home to the DR to visit family they go for a LONG time) and we lost contact. But we found out that she was home again and so we went and knocked on her door. She was so happy to see us and she's totally willing to get right back into the swing of things. She came to church on Sunday and she wants us to set a baptismal date with her at our next appointment!

Thursday- we had 3 appointments and got fed at all 3 of them! By the end of the night neither of us felt good and neither of us ate breakfast the next morning because we were still so full! But all the appointments were good. One was with a new investigator but she didn't do her reading so we just read with her. Then we went to a new converts house and talked to her about preparing a name to go do baptisms for the dead. We asked her about how much joy she felt when she was baptized and how she can help others who have already died feel that same joy! She is preparing her mom's name to go do. We're really excited for her.

Friday- We had a meeting with all the new missionaries who came in this cycle and all their trainers. It was so fun to see my MTC friends again. But it also was such a good meeting. Any meeting with President and Sister Smith is really just a little general conference! It's great!

After the meeting we went to 2 appointments that fell through so we did a lot of street contacting until our last appointment at 7:30. We taught Dilira and she's so great! She has so many good questions and really wants to learn! We tried to set a baptismal date with her but she is going to the DR for 3 weeks and doesn't want to be baptized before then because she doesn't feel ready. We think she's a little scared to be baptized. But the elders are having a baptism this Sunday and we are hoping it will show her that baptism isn't a scary thing.

Saturday- we had the Concourse ward picnic. And that was really good! A member brought some non-member friends who are interested in the church so we will go teach them later this week. Then we went to see an investigator named Elena, that the last set of sisters gave a baptismal date to, but we finally met her (she's cancelled 3 appointments in the last 2 weeks) and she totally does not understand our message or keep any of her commitments. So sadly we had to drop her baptism date. Then the rest of the night all of our appointments fell through so we spent the rest of the night doing look ups.

Sunday- Lots of church. We were at the church and in meetings from 8:30 until 3:30 so that was long but also really good! Then we went to a lunch appointment with a member and ate really yummy Peruvian food. And then all the rest of our appointments fell through (that happened a lot this week). So we tracted and street contacted until 8:30 and then we started my first split.

Monday- Day of the split. I was with Sister Muti she is in the English program and so I got to teach lessons, talk and pray in English all day! It was kinda weird praying and teaching in English I haven't really done that for a long time. But it was fun getting to be on splits for a day! I saw more white people on Monday than I have everyday total since I’ve been here! I didn't even realize how few of them I've been seeing until I started seeing them again.

Tuesday- My first zone conference! It was so good! The focus was on Joseph Smith and I loved having my testimony of him reaffirmed. Zone conference was really long we got there at 8:00 and didn't leave until 4:00. So we didn't have a lot of time to go out and teach. Our first appointment fell through so we went to our second, which was dinner with a member. We felt impressed to share the video of the currant bush and gardener with her and at the end she opened up about her struggles and how that video was exactly what she needed. I love how aware god is of all of his children's needs and I'm so grateful he is able to work through us to help people. Then we went to another appointment but it feel through. So we decided to go look up Brenda. We could hear people inside so we knocked and knocked but no one answered. We were just about to leave a note and go when Brenda, just out of the shower, opened up and let us in. We showed her the chapel tour video and invited her to church and she said she would come if we came to pick her up. Which is perfect cuz she actually really lives really close to us!

Overall this week was a good week and I can't wait for this next week. I love you all and can't wait to hear from you!

Les queremos mucho!
