| Hermana Morales and I at the zoo last p-day |
Wednesday- we went to
the Bronx zoo for p-day it was really fun! The zoo is huge and on Wednesday
it's free admission so it was packed! So many people were there that sometimes
it was hard to see the animals. But over all a really fun day. Then we had an
appointment with Virginia we showed her a video on baptism to invite her to the
baptism the elders were having. We are also hoping to set a baptismal date with
her next week!
Thursday- we had
weekly planning so we only had time for 2 appointments but it was still good.
We taught Monchita, a recent convert. We read in JSH when Satan tried to stop
Joseph from praying in the grove. We talked about how Satan tries to do the
same with us, he is always tempting us and trying to get us to skip our
scripture study, prayer and church. She shared about how she had felt that
struggle right before she got baptized and how even now she feels Satan working
on her. We talked about how we can fight against and overcome the temptations
Satan puts in our path.
Friday- We ate SO much
food. We had district language study and we made lunch to eat afterward which
was fine but then we went to an appointment and they fed us lunch. Then we had
a dinner appointment a few hours later that was 3 courses. Then we had a FHE
scheduled and of course they gave us food too! By the end of the day we both
felt so sick! But other than that our appointments went good.
Saturday- We were just
finishing up our studies when we got a call from a member that she needed our
help. We went down to her apartment and helped her and then at the end her
daughter (who until now claimed she was atheist and wanted nothing to do with
us) asked us a gospel related question and that led to a discussion where she
said she didn't have a religion because there were too many to pick from, how
was she to know? So we shared JSH about how he had the same question and how he
got his answer. We were able to teach her the restoration and asked her to find
out for herself if what we taught her was the truth. She told that she felt
"a good peaceful feeling" and we taught her of the spirit and that
it's through the spirit that we can find and understand truth.
Sunday- We had 3
investigators at church! We also had 4 of the less active members. After church the elders had a Baptism and it
was so good! So many people came to support their friend and the whole program
was really great. The man who was baptized bore his testimony and it was so
powerful!
Monday- In district
meeting our district decided to make a goal of having 4 new investigators this
week instead of 3. At first everyone was a little apprehensive because we barely
or didn’t make that goal this week. But we accepted the challenge. Then we
found out that one of our members was in the hospital so we went to go visit
her. But we accidently went to the wrong one. By the time we found out and went
to the right one it took us almost 2 1/2 hours of traveling to get there and then
back to our next appointment but it was a good visit. Because the hospital is
so far away from everything we are the only ones who have visited her.
After that we went to a dinner appointment but when we got there she hadn’t
even started cooking yet. So we said we would go tracting and come back. We
left and in the 35 minutes we were gone we found 2 new investigators! Just 6
hours after we set the goal we had achieved half! What a blessing!
Tuesday- An awesome
day! We had a really awesome lesson with another new investigator named Maria!
We taught her the restoration and she actually understood that the priesthood
had to be restored (most people don't understand that) she promised she will
read in the BOM and let us set a return appointment. Then we went to a dinner
appointment and on our way back we got on the subway Wi-Fi to check our
Facebook messages. And we looked and a potential investigators had finally
accepted our friend request! We hurried and sent her a message to see if we
could stop by. She then told us she was in the hospital and we couldn't come
see her. But we were able to do a Face book video call! It was such a good
lesson. She told us that she thought god had forgotten her but that when we
messaged her and asked to come see her that she knew she had not been
forgotten! It was such an amazing lesson! We are so blesses to be able to use
technology to help further the Lord's work.
This week was so
great! Now that you have heard all about my crazy adventures I would love to
hear all about all yours! I hope all is going good! I hope you know all of you
are in my prayers. I love you all and have a great week!
Love, Hermana
Dobson
Mom's Questions of the Week:
What are you learning and enjoying about the Latin People and
Culture?
They love you through food! You literally can't refuse it
unless you want to send the message that you don't love them.
Do you feel like your Spanish is improving? YES, we
actually had a dinner with a member the other night and she heard me speak my
second day here and she said how much of a difference she could hear. So that's
comforting.
How much time do you spend studying Spanish? What are you using to study it? We spend an hour a day and the schedule is like this 10 minutes book of Mormon, 10 minutes reading lesson material, 30 minutes grammar, 10 minutes listening or roleplays.
You mentioned some of your investigators were going back to the
Dominican Republic. Are most of the members and investigators
Dominicans, or is it a mix? It's 80% Dominicans and 20% other countries
