Sept 13th, 2017 A Visit from President Russell M. Nelson and Others

Sister Morales and I
September 13, 2017

Hola! Hola! Mis amigos y familia amado! ¿Comó están este semana? ¿todo bien? ¡Ojalá que si!  No tengo mucho tiempo hoy pero quiero compartir un poco sobre este semana fantástica. Hay muchas bendiciones y milagros!

This week has been crazy and amazing! I can't wait to tell you all about it. But first of all I want to tell you that President Nelson says thanks! He wants to thank all of you for supporting me and for praying for all the missionaries!

On Saturday we had Women's Stake Conference which was so amazing! We had Sister Smith, the wife of the president of the NY south mission, Sister Waddell, Sister Buckner, Sister Gong and Sister Nelson speak to all the women of the 9 stakes that are in the Manhattan temple district. It was so amazing some of my biggest take aways and favorite quotes were :

"You can't pray, 'lead me, guide me' and then say 'just kidding when you find out what the Lord asks if you" -sister Nelson;

"We as covenant keeping people are untitled to divine help. We can pray for angels to be at our side, we don't have to wait for the next life to have heaven surround us"- Sister Nelson

"The Lord does not ask for our praise because he needs it, but rather our praise changes us our hearts and allows us to become more like him"- Sister Gong.

Also, Sister Gong had each of us write a Psalm right there in conference and I want to invite you to do the same. It's really easy here is the guide:

Start with:  praise ye the Lord! For he hath... [put in what the Lord has done for you]. The Lord he is my... [describe what your relationship with Christ]. And I will... [say what you will do to show your love for him].

Here is the one I wrote: Praise Ye the Lord! For he hath comforted me when my heart was heavy and rejoiced with me when it was light. The Lord he is my friend, my guide, and my Redeemer. And I will strive to become like him, to remember his sacrifice for my pains and my sins, and I will help others understand the infinite love he has for them.

So that was Women's Conference, then when that got over we had to hurry and cross Central Park to get to the church where President Nelson would be speaking to the whole mission! We got to take a picture with President Nelson and the other visiting authorities with the whole mission (picture featured below).  We then had all of them speak to us. We had Bishop and Sister Waddell, Elder and Sister Gong, and Sister and President Nelson.

The over arching theme was family history, here are some of my favorite quotes and take aways:

The book of Mormon is the key to the gathering of Israel, use it as such—

Bishop Waddell; asking someone to repent is only asking someone to change in a way that brings them closer to Christ—

Sister Gong; pray to be lead to those people whose ancestors have already accepted the gospel, then we have help from the other side of the veil—

Sister Nelson. Then President Nelson said something that I love, "when I look at you, i don't see 18-21 year old youths. I see mothers and fathers, church leaders, some of you will sit in the same chairs we sit in now and some of you even more".

At the end of his talk he gave the mission an apostolic blessing that was sweet and tender. He truly is a prophet of God! Called to help us come closer to Christ and to teach us what we need to change in our lives!

It was an experience of a lifetime to be able to have so many of the Lord's leaders sit in the room with all the missionaries in the New York, New York north mission and have them teach us!

Okay I have one more miracle this week and then I promise I'll be done! To understand how amazing this is you must understand the back story of this family. Three  years ago the elders started teaching s teenager named Osmin Azuara. When he first asked to be baptized his mom refused and told him he would die Catholic. After some persuasion she finally said yes. A year later his mom joined the church as well. A year ago he left on his mission and right now is serving in California. Since he left on his mission his dad and two of his little sisters have taken the discussions and been baptized. His older sister, Consuelo,  had taken the discussions and ultimately decided she didn't want to be baptized. On Saturday elder Azuara called us because he had received permission from his mission President to teach Consuelo. He had a Skype lesson with her and she said she wanted to be baptized, but was afraid to do it. Yesterday we went over there and had a great lesson with Consuelo and at the end elder Azuara Facebook called in to share with her his experience of investigating the church and being baptized. He invited her to be baptized and, all together, we picked a date. She is preparing to be baptized the first weekend in October and now her dad is going to start taking the classes to get the priesthood so he can both baptize and confirm her. This week has definitely been guided by the hand of the lord, and I'm so grateful for that.

I do apologize for the long letter but I wanted to share some of the amazing spiritual experiences I've had this week! I love you all and hope to hear from you soon! Have a wonderful week
