| We bought pastelitos from this lady that sells them out of her kitchen window. Because in the Bronx any one can be an entrepreneur if you have a kitchen window |
Hello my lovely friends and family I hope your week was wonderful and that you are enjoying the fall weather. I wish I could say the same. Though a few weeks ago it was really cold the temperature has gone back up to the 80s and the trees are super confused as to whether they should change colors or not. Oh well
This week has been crazy. We are going into the last week of the cycle so we are busy trying to plan stuff out so that if new Hermanas come in they will actually have something to do.
Last p-day was a blast we went to Manhattan and found this little place that sells cookie dough but you eat it like ice cream. Not bad. Then we just walked around Manhattan for a little bit and ended up going to central park
Thursday we had interviews with President Smith which are always so good! He is such an amazing man, and so in tune with the spirit! I still wasn't feeling the greatest from when I had been sick from the week before so I asked him for a blessing. He gave me such a sweet blessing. I'm so grateful for the priesthood and the power it brings to our lives.
Saturday we had an APF which is an "area people focus" which means that multiple companionships get together to focus on finding new people. We did ours as a district on English class. We stood out on the corner with a big sign and asked people to sign up for the English class that we hold twice a week. We have noticed that if we can get someone into the church for something like English class then they are more likely to come back to church meetings/ become investigators. We ended up with almost 30 new names and numbers for the class! So we're all really excited!
Church was an adventure! We had a sister on vacation from Hawaii wander into our sacrament but she doesn't speak a lick of Spanish. We told her she could wait until 1:30 for English but she said she couldn't so for 2nd and 3rd hour I translated as best I could while Hermana Morales talked and sat with our investigators. It was an adventure to say the least. I'll also say I'm not about to change my major to interpreting anytime soon! But the spirit definitely helped me.
A miracle this week: last week we had found a new investigator tracting so we were coming back for our first full lesson. Per normal we asked her if her husband would like to join us. She said he was very religious and devoted to his religion and didn't want to listen. He was in the kitchen and could hear us when we started. A few minutes in he came and sat down saying "I'm only going to listen" we got about halfway through the restoration when he stopped us and started asking questions of the soul. Where do we go when we die etc. So we switched gears and taught the plan of salvation instead. Him and his wife both loved it and were so anxious to have us back. It was amazing to see the change in his heart in just a few short minutes from "I don't want to listen" to "when can you come back". The spirit definitely touched his heart and allowed us to teach him.
I love you all! Have a great week!
Love, Hermana Dobson
