| I taught Hermana Chacón how to vacuum this week. They don't use carpet in El Salvador, so she never learned |
This week was really great! We saw a bunch of cool miracles!
First off, about a month ago we had dropped an investigator because we could not get in contact with her at all, she was a member referral from a member in the Stamford YSA ward. About a week ago we ran into her and she asked us to go by again. So we did. We went and knocked and knocked but we received the same results as last time. No answer. So we were walking away from her door and she pulled up at the same time we were about to pull away! We were able to go inside and had an awesome lesson with her, and at the end she told us she had wanted to go to Walmart on her way home to work but had then decided not to. The Lord was definitely in the workings of that one!
Second big miracle! Last Sunday our Relief Society president texted us telling us here was a new family that had just moved here from Honduras and are now I our ward. But they only speak Spanish so she asked if we could go visit them. We went to see them on Monday and turns out there Lola (17 years old, very active member), her mom Karina (inactive member), and Obdulio (Karina's boyfriend, non member). So we started teaching Obdulio the restoration. We got to the great apostasy and he just could not understand it. We spent over an hour on Monday trying to help him understand it but he just couldn't. So we gave him a break and when we went back on Wednesday we followed up and he still did not understand the great apostasy, despite Lola and Karina teaching him it over and over after we had left. So we tried for another hour to try help him understand the great apostasy. We didn't make much progress in that lesson either. So we went back on Saturday and taught it again! And finally this time he got it. But it took a total of 5 hours of us teaching the apostasy for him to finally get it. But what came next made it totally worth it.
On Saturday we had given him the book of Mormon and invited him to read the introduction. Then the next morning he didn’t come to church and Karina and Lola did. When we asked why he didn't come they told us it was because he had stayed up until 3 o'clock that morning reading the Book of Mormon so he had been fast asleep when their ride came. He had read the introduction, the testimonies of the witness and of Joseph Smith, as well as 12 chapters of 1 Nephi. And although we weren't happy he missed church, we were thrilled that he had read so, I hope 0f the book of Mormon. He even wrote down questions to ask us the next time. I'm so excited to watch him change! I love the Gospel and the power the book of Mormon has to change lives!
I love you all and hope you have a wonderful week!
Love, Hermana Dobson
