| A member gave us chile mangos, sister castillo was elated, I was just amused |
Hello Family and Friends!
I hope all is well! This week has been good! We have seen a lot of success this week! I love the people in this area and know many of them have been prepared to receive the Gospel. This cycle Sister Castillo and I have worked really hard and next cycle we will work even harder because as we are working we find those who are ready. We have seen some miracles just from this week.
This week kinda started off to a rough start for like 3 straight days all we did was look ups and tracting. We didn't teach very much and considering how many doors we knocked we didn't find very many new people who were actually interested in listening to our message. But then starting Sunday we started to see miracle after miracle! I'll talk about just 3.
First, Albertina, she is the sister of a member who just moved into our ward. We have been teaching her a little bit but it's been really hard to teach her because her boyfriend doesn't like us or the religion. But this weekend he was scheduled to work and so Albertina told her sister that they would go to church together. Then we get a text from her sister Friday night at 9: 30 that said "Hermanas, he got off work early, she probably won't be able to make it to church tomorrow" we were obviously disappointed but tried not to get down. Then the next morning we went to church. While there I felt prompted that we should save extra space on the bench, so we did. Then about 5 minutes before church started we got a text that they were both coming! We later learned that even though her boyfriend was going to be home she decided to go to church with her sister anyway! Then she posted on Facebook 10 minutes after church that she felt blessed and tagged the church in her post! It might take more time with her but her heart is being softened and opened to accepting the gospel.
Second, Kebely, she is a the niece of a member we work with. In January and February we had been teaching her but lost contact because she is super busy, works three jobs and is trying to learn English on top of that. But then this week she contacted us and told us that she wants to make time for us again. She misses feeling the spirit she can feel when we are with her. She told us a time we could come over and that she will be coming to church this Sunday! We had a really short lesson with her and her first question was what do I have to do to join the church?! We were happy to answer that and she said that is something she wants to work towards. She told us that she knows she needs to put God first in her life! We are so excited to start working with her again and to see her progress and make covenants with Heavenly Father!
Last, We have a brother and sister on baptismal date for May 19th. Rachalle (13) and JC (11) they are both unbaptized children. The elders had been working will them for a few months but could never get Rachalle to progress and asked if we would try with the family. We went over a couple times and had a little bit more success but then she shut us out and we couldn't make any progress with her. She wouldn't read, she wouldn't come to church, she wouldn’t really pay attention and only play on her phone during our lessons. It was really hard to feel the spirit because she would fight with her brother...But this week we had a break through! Even though they had both already been taught the plan of salvation we felt to share it again. We were talking about the spirit world and how missionaries will preach the gospel there just like they do here. Then she asked why do the missionaries do what they do and what makes them work? What do they get out of it? The spirit told me to wait until the end to answer the question so we told her to wait to the end to see if her question got answered. We went and taught the 3 kingdoms of glory and finished and she said we hadn't answered her question. Then we asked her if we (the missionaries) could make it to the Celestial kingdom with out a single baptism, she said yes so then we asked her why she thought we did it. She didn't know. We had a long pause then said "Rachalle, there is only one thing that motivates us, and it's love. The only reason we come and teach you and want you to be baptized is because we love you." then we closed with a prayer and left. We came back 2 days later and she had read the chapter we had given her and another one, she said the opening prayer without complaints, she paid attention to the whole lesson and didn't pull out her phone once! She was happy and laughing and getting along with her brother. And now more than ever she wants her baptism for herself! I love the power of love and that when people know we love them and that Heavenly Father loves them the want to change!
I hope you all have a wonderful week!
Love, Hermana Dobson
