Oct 8, 2018 AMAZING CONFERENCE

Hermana Walker, me Sasha and Cristina with the Hudson River
Hola Familia-

This week was amazing! We have seen a lot of success both in the people we are teaching and part member and less active families this week! We were able to set a baptismal date with Cristina the 16 year old daughter of a returning less active for November 10th. She's very excited for her baptismal date and receive the blessings of the gospel.

General Conference was also super amazing! We were able to help several people attend and receive answers to their questions through hearing the voice of the prophet. I also was able to receive lots of revelation both for this area and for myself. I am so grateful to have a living day prophet and that he leads and guides us today!

I love that with every change they make (ie ministering, 2 hour block more focuses on family) makes so much sense and it leaves me wondering why they didn't change it even earlier! We were taking to some members last night at dinner and they liked it because that's exactly how this church came to be restored. Because Joseph’s parents taught him to love God and to read the scriptures. They didn't go to church frequently enough for him to learn all of that there. His parents are largely to credit for him being spiritually learned enough to know to ask of God.

I loved the over arching theme of prepare yourselves. Strengthen your family, strengthen your flock (ward and community) strength yourself, repent and put right the things that need to be put right. That with the announcement of 12 new temples! Makes for a marvelous start to ushering in the second coming of the savior!

I’m not sure I had a favorite talk but I loved elder Hollands about forgiveness and President Nelson's about the proper name of the church. For my entire mission when someone asks if we are the Mormons I’ll say yes we are the missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I knew it was important for others to know the true name of the church but yesterday just opened my eyes to it even more. I loved that he talked about Satan wants us to take the saviors name out of the church and that it is highly offensive to the lord when we do. I think it was good for a lot of members (especially Latinos) to hear.

A girl in my ward is leaving for her mission in Perú tomorrow and I have had the amazing privilege of working with her to help her feel prepared. We took her out this week and she was so nervous we talked a lot to her and then by yesterday she was just super excited. As I hugged her good bye I couldn't help but feel a little jealous. But at the same time not, I know a need to move on to the next phase of my life but I’d also love to be back at the beginning of my mission just so excited about everything! But Conference was good and helped me feel more peace about coming home.

Love Hermana Dobson
Hermana Walker and I and The awesome view of the Hudson River from a members apartment

Sister Wilson and her new companion came to the apartment on an exchange! It was fun to see and talk to her!

Traffic selfie. We were stuck in traffic for 2 hours! I hate New York traffic so much!

Sister Walker and I at Saturday Conference. And Hermano López foto bombing in the back :)

Sasha! A a member we have been working with is leaving on her mission to Peru tomorrow! I'm so excited for her!

Okay story time. We were walking down the street and this dog is being super hyper it jumps up on me twice and I push it down then it goes to pee. Everything was fine. (Hermana Walker is super afraid of dogs so she snaps a picture to share with her family about the crazy dog that jumped on her companion). Then we continue walking and we see this lady with a little dog walk around the corner. The dog immediately goes after it and starts attacking the little dog. And the entire block goes crazy! Traffic is at a complete standstill because the dogs are weaving in and out of traffic. And the dog chases other dogs into stores someone calls the cops and about 4 dogs run off together biting and attacking each other the whole way. It's probably the most unsafe I've felt on my mission and I've lived in the Bronx and Yonkers so that's saying something. But it's a funny story now!
